The White House

Dear Raynell,
Congratulations on your appointment to the White House! They couldn't have selected a
more qualified and worthy person than you. I first heard about your appointment from
Debora Juarez. We are both planning to visit you at the White House (if you invite us).
My reason for this letter is to provide you with a chance to give some thought to a request
from me to you for getting your assistance with obtaining funding to revise and update
the tribal economic profiles as found in Tiller's Guide to Indian Country: Economic
Profiles of American Indian Reservations (1996 edition).
I also understand that you will be at NCAI's Annual Conference in Myrtle Beach next
week. If your busy schedule permits, I (and several hundred other people) would like the
opportunity to visit with you, during a break or for dinner to further discuss my request.
It is probably not unusual for you to get letters from the "Indian folks" requesting your
help with various and sundry projects. But, I suspect you have not received any direct
requests from people from the private sector. In any case, the reason that I thought of you
was because you are in a key position to "make things happen" throughout Indian
Country.
In the last several years, I have had numerous conversations with various federal
agencies, including the Domestic Indian Policy Council, the Bureau of Reclamation, the
BIA Forestry Department, and the BIA's Office of Trust Responsibility, who have
expressed an active interest in assisting Tiller Research, Inc. in someway with updating
the 1996 edition. Their seems to be a general consensus that there is a real need on an
annual basis throughout the federal agencies to have access to reliable and updated
