SUBJECT: Brenda Joyner, AmeriCorp Member FY 1996
TO: AmeriCorp Coordinator, 28-00
This letter is in support of Ms. Brenda Joyner for the services she
performed in Madison County as an AmeriCorp member during the past
fiscal year.
Her willingness to devote two years of her life to service for her
community is commendable. She has touched the lives of both the
young and old through her tutoring of elementary age students at
Nichols Elementary School, Canton MS and special projects such as
assisting in the renovation of the Charles W. Bannerman Community
Center in Flora, MS.
Day to day service at the local Rural Development Office resulted
in a increased awareness of the programs offered by this Agency and
an increase in productivity. Credit counseling and money
management sessions on a one-on-one basis has helped to lower RH
single family delinquencies and help those applicants whose loans
were approved to become successful homeowners. There are no first
year delinquent borrowers in this county.
The first goal of AmeriCorps is "getting things done", a challenge
which Ms. Joyner has met well. We appreciate the opportunity to
have served as her site supervisor.

Brenda Joyner, Ameri- Corps Member, has
been a great asset in helping my daughter

Kyla's reading skills and in doing So improved
Mrs. Joyner was in improving
her self- esteem.
I Personally feel that this reading

this program would deprive children of much
needed help.

To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter to share how Mrs. Brenda Joyner, Americorp Member, helped
me save my home from foreclosure. She telephoned me and made a personal visit to my home
and informed me of the fact that the loan on my home was about to be foreclosed. After
informing me of the situation, Mrs. Joyner directed me to a person who would be able to assist
me in stopping the foreclosure of my home of seven years. During this time, I had had several
tragedies in my life. My oldest son had been killed in an automobile accident and I had gone
through an ugly divorce and had been left with four children.
Mrs. Joyner referred me to Mrs. Linda Stovall, the County Supervisor at that time. Mrs.
Stovall talked to me and eventually I was granted a moratorium (suspension of payments for a
given time period). This gave me a chance to catch up on my other bills and prepare myself
for future house payments. If not for Mrs. Joyner, I would not have known about the services
available for me. Because of her personal interest and concern for my family's well being, she
helped me to keep the home that I probably would have lost otherwise. Thanks to her I am still
a homeowner.
Sincerely,
Shirley Weatherspoon
