KIWANIS CURRENT AND PAST PRESIDENT
ATTENDING 9/17 RADIO ADDRESS
Both the current and immediate past President's of Kiwanis
International (and their wives) have been invited to attend this
weeks radio address.
It is a tradition for the President to meet briefly with the
Kiwanis International President. Since we were unable to
schedule this in 1993 we have asked both the immediate past
President and the current President to attend the radio address.
Kiwanis International is a community service organization
actively involved in the needs of children from prenatal
development to age five.
Kiwanis International featured you in a year-long multi-media
campaign to promote immunization of children by age two. The
campaign is built around the slogan, "All Their Shots, While
They're Tots". You have been featured along with this slogan on
billboards, posters, radio and television spots and public
service ads for magazine and newspapers. It is estimated this
multi-media campaign was worth between $15 and $20 million. This
is just one part of a major Kiwanis service program launched in
1990 called "Young Children: Priority One." The campaign calls
on every Kiwanis club to undertake projects to meet the special
needs of children.

Attached is a four-week calendar. This memo will serve to
provide some explanation on what appears on this calendar and
what information we can provide for you in the future.
There are essentially four categories of information included:
1) Confirmed events on the Public Liaison calendar. These
are events that appear on the regular Public Liaison
calendar. Primarily, the events include briefings for
outside groups, meetings with constituency working
groups and events on the schedule of one of the
principals in which the Office of Public Liaison is the
staff contact. These entries will be listed with a
specific time and location along with the name of the
OPL staff contact for the event. If the event involves
one of the principals, the staff contact is indicated
in small case next to the initials of the principal in
capital letters.
2) Noteworthy conventions. These will most often appear
on a banner along the bottom of the week. Since the
President gets invited to participate in most of these
conventions, it is likely that my office or the
scheduling office will have responded to these
organizations. Also, in some cases we will have a
request pending with the scheduling office. For
example, the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention is
indicated by a banner across the bottom of 8/19 - 8/26.
The Office of Public Liaison in conjunction with the
Veterans Affairs Department has submitted a request for
the President to attend this convention. That request
is still pending. Since it is difficult to convey
relevant information in the calendar format I can
attach a brief memo with this calendar.
3) Other events, speeches, briefings etc. for which the
Office of Public Liaison has a pending request with a
principal will be indicated with an asterisk, for
example, National Night-Out on 8/2.
4) Noteworthy Days. Days noted by proclamations, holidays
or anniversaries (e.g. Women's Equality Day, 8/26).
I think that about covers it. We can refine this process as we
move forward.

We have a request pending with the scheduling office for the
President to attend and speak at the kick-off ceremony for
National Night-Out.
August 6
We submitted a request for the President to attend the
Japanese American Citizens League Dinner in Salt Lake city,
Utah. This is oldest and largest Japanese American
organization in the U.S. This request had to be regretted
due to the Presidents travel to Missouri. The Office of
Public Liaison is trying to coordinate a Cabinet level
speaker.
August 19 - 26
In conjunction with the VA we submitted a request for the
President to address the VFW convention. It is still
pending but unlikely due to the President's vacation.
August 26
Women's Equality Day. At present no events are planned to
commemorate this day.
