REQUEST:
POTUS would like to tape one-on-one interviews with Univision
and Telemundo local affiliates channel 51 and 23 in Miami
,
regarding the Administration's Cuba policy and Cubans in safe
havens.
PURPOSE:
This should be the first step in a media strategy to inform the
community of our ongoing policy developments and counter
negative misinformation circulating throughout South Florida
regarding our Cuba policy.
BACKGROUND:
In order for the administration to gain the Cuban community's
support, it is essential for the President to counter the negative
misinformation circulating throughout the Cuban community.
The President should speak directly to this constituency about his
policy towards Cuba. Telemundo and Univision are the leading
Hispanic networks in the country.
PREVIOUS
PARTICIPATION:
Both local affiliates participated in Florida Media Day at the
White House regarding the base closings in 1993.

Rodham. This is a group of
influential supporters who are very
upset about our current Cuban
policy. A successful meeting with

ramifications throughout the Dade
County Cuban-American community.
