Dear Ms. Scott,
The Metropolitan Community Church of Washington will soon celebrate its 25th anniversary. Yes, the
Washington church is 25 years old; a quarter of a century!
The Metropolitan Community Church of Washington (MCC-DC) is a Christian Church with a special
ministry to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered people. Our faith is based upon the historic
creeds; Apostles' and Nicene. We believe in a Triune God in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and Savior
of the World and in the Holy Spirit as the Lord and Giver of Life.
As a member congregation of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches
(UFMCC), we proclaim God's love for all persons, participate in a ministry of social justice, and
advocate the human rights of all persons. Our authority comes from God and is revealed through Christ
and the Scriptures as God's inspired Word.
As the Pastor of the Washington church, I am overjoyed to be part of the celebration and history of our
local church. I always knew that I would be part of the celebration, but it was my vision that I would
share the joy with my friend and late Pastor of MCC Washington, the Rev. Larry Uhrig. In all that we
celebrate, we will continue to honor his memory and raise his name up in praise and thanksgiving for
paving the way.
I would like to invite you to be part of our celebration and of course extend the invitation to the White
House also to participate in part or all of the selected activities for the weekend. They are as follows:
1.
Friday, May 3, 1996, A gala Banquet and Dance will be held at the National
Press Club located at 14th & F Streets N.W. The Reverend Troy D. Perry,
founder of our denomination, will be our special guest.
2.
Saturday, May 4, 1996, "God Has Made Us A Rainbow", A Celebration In Music And
Theater. This will be an event to celebrate our history, at the Lincoln Theater, located at
13th & U Streets N.W. There is no cost for this event. A. freewill love offering will be
taken to help cover the costs. It is my hope that we will be able to give special
recognition and honor to the clergy and special guests present at this event. We would be
