OCR Page 1 of 10Meeting with San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Leadership
Claremont Hotel, Oakland, California
6:10pm -- 6:40pm
Wednesday, February 19, 1997
Meeting requested by: Philip Dufour
Briefing prepared by: Richard Socarides -- off: 202-219-9088 hm: 202-986-5927;
Pager: 800-sky-gram pin # 419-1395
EVENT:
You will be meeting with leaders from the San Francisco gay and lesbian community (see
list of participants below). There will be 12 outside participants. The purpose of the meeting is
to thank them for their support during the first term and to tell them you look forward to working
with them closely over the next four years.
You last met with members of the San Francisco gay community on September 21, 1995.
Northern California gay activists are among the most vocal and strident in the country -- and
many of the issues they care deeply about are difficult and politically complicated. As such, this
discussion may prove to be frank, direct and spirited.
LOGISTICS:
This meeting will be at the Claremont Hotel. The participants will introduce themselves
as they arrive and will be seated. You will make brief remarks (see talking points below) and
then ask for questions and/or comments. The meeting is scheduled for thirty minutes.
YOUR ROLE AND CONTRIBUTION:
This meeting is an opportunity to "touch base" with the Northern California gay and
lesbian leadership. You had a similar meeting with the national leadership one month ago, on
January 18, 1997.
