Talking Points
We remain convinced that this international effort has and
can continue to improve the lives of Somalis and can create
conditions for the re-establishment of a civil society.
The U.S. has remained in Somalia to ensure that the process
begun by UNITAF is continued and brought to successful
conclusion under UNOSOM.

As Monday's mission against an Aideed stronghold
demonstrates, the U.S., in conjunction with UNOSOM,
continues to work to fulfill the mandate established by the
UN for UNOSOM II.
