C. 20500 Dear Mr. President: We would like to invite you to address the Annual Legislative Conference of the 2.3 million member New York State AFL-CIO scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, 1997 in Albany, New York A major priority for the State AFL-CIO this year is the issue of education and training as the key to improving our states economic competitiveness - the same priority you so eloquently outlined in your State of the Union Address. Our affiliates are in a unique position to advance this agenda since they represent K-12 teachers, community college and university professors, apprenticeship directors, training leaders and a host of others whose goal is to improve the quality of our education and training system by focusing on high standards and full access to that system. In addition, all of our members, whether in the public or private sectors, know that their children's opportunity to reach the American dream rests squarely on attaining quality education and training. We applaud your leadership and commitment to achieving this goal and would like to use this opportunity to draw the attention of all New Yorkers at one of the year's largest and most prominent meetings in the state capitol. We hope your schedule permits you to join us. Sincerely, Pauldre =Edward-J.=Cleary_ President Secretary-Treasurer EJC/PFC/car opeiu-153
