you", which he often uses, "tenkoo". A funny thing is that when he
is given food he says this, and when putting back his empty plate,
uses the Eskimo "Koo-y&~na-mik" (the same word).
AUGUST 11- Thursday
What awful wrath I could have written, less than four
hours after my last session with this book. We set out at high tide
and almost at once it started to rain. George and I stood an anchor
watch from 12:00 to 4:00A M and it was colder and more rainy than
before, with the tide quickly letting us down on shoals. Lord knows
how we ever got out of that place. But we did, and by noon put into
camp in a favorable looking beach.
It rained all the first night. Next day, being fair,
Dave and Avalooshak went hunting. G.P., George and I went for a long
hunt walk. The country is rocky but with wide green meadows, which
are soaking wet. There are signs of all kinds of game, most espec-
ially caribou. We saw many loons and ducks and a flock of about 50
geese, also several snowy owls. After a walk of over nine hours,
we reached camp once more with no game. Dave and the husky had bet-
ter luck, getting three nice caribou. Any meat would have been wel-
come to us and this is tender and delicious beyond all imagination.
Today we have had good sun and Larry at last has been
able to take all his observations. But what bad news they bring.
