PREFACE.
In preparing this little work I am
fully aware of the difficulties with
which I have to contend. At the
very start I have to disagree with
the teachings of science; but scientific
men are a very agreeable class to dis-
agree with, they know enough to
know that they don't know it all.
What we are taught through these
text-books is that the rotary motion
of the earth causes the liquid portion
of it to swell at the Equator. But
what I claim is that it shrinks at the
Equator and swells at the poles. But
suppose they were right, that would
not cause rivers to flow through the
oceans or flatten the earth at the poles
enough to be noticed, and without
