22 OCEAN CURRENTS consequently as vapor rises in warmer climates toward the Equator and floated toward the poles, it would reach these cold regions and be condensed into snow. And the snow would there fall and gradually pile up thousands of miles high, and instead of the earth being flat at the poles, like an apple, it would be oval like an egg, with two slim ends. There would be but little water in the lowest ocean basin as it would mostly all be piled up in snow and ice at the two ends of the world, for it would surely have two ends if that was the condition of things. But such does not now seem to be the con- dition of things, and it seems more likely that there are now two holes instead of two ends at the poles.
