purpose. In addition to the city council, fire de-
partment, military, Red Men, and Knights of
Pythias of Alexandria, and the Columbia Turn-
verein, of this city, many well-known business
houses have been assigned places in the line, to
represent the industries of the city.
Hon. Courtland H. Smith has been selected as
chief-marshal, and has chosen the following aids:

The procession will be formed on Washington
street, the right resting on Cameron, and traverse
the principal thoroughfares of the city, disband-
ing on Royal street. It is proposed to have a grand
carnival scene in the evening, and the citizens
have been invited to illuminate their residences
along the route of the procession, in order to add
brilliancy to it.
A. N. Hurdle has been chosen king of the carni-
val, with the following assistants J. Proctor, B. F.
Penn, R. M. Latham, R. C. Lee, James A. Higgins,
George O. Monroe, Mose Waterman, Samuel Ten-
nesson, E. H. Hawkins, Willianr Wheatley, Will-
iam Murtaugh, Fred Rogers, William Desmond,
Alonzo Travers, O. Nightingale, and James Beach.
