mixed drinks of all kinds." As for the VISI-
tors, after they have made a tour of inspec-
tion to everything and seen everything, they
are ready to make up their minds how large
a slice of this large chunk of pleasure they
will appropriate for themselves. After all a
glance at the different occupations of the
crowd shows that the choice depends on the
age. In the seats near the band-stand you
find the father and mother and generally the
children enjoying their beer and eatables, and
at the same time the music and the crowd.
Here, also, may be seen a group of young men,
for whom the games have no attractions,
enjoying themselves. But for the young
man with his girl the place has great possi-
bilities. If he has determined to settle the
momentous question there, then and forever,
there are sylvan nooks where the beer boy
does not penetrate, and here the tender
sibilations of budding love mingle with the
sighing of the summer zephyrs. The attend-
ance was large for the first night, and the
evening was enjoyably passed. About 10
o'clock the rain which passed over the city
fell slightly at the park, and seemed to hurry
some of the visitors home.
The prizes were awarded at a late hour last
night, as follows: Bowling-first prize, unde-
cided;" $12, to M. Haydown; $9, to H. See-
bode; $6, to G. J. Seufferle; $5, to J. Fittich;
$4, to John Angermann; $3, to W. Fendner,
and $2 to Gus Hartig For the largest num-
ber of ten strikes Mr. W. Fendner received
an extra prize of $5. Ladies' shooting prizes-
Mrs. Eckert, pair of ear-rings; Mrs. Horner,
one dozen handkerchiefs; Mrs. Bessler, a
satchel; Mrs. Helmers, fancy basket; Mrs.
Muehleisen, dress goods. About 10 o'clock
Company A, Washington Light Infantry,
arrived under the command of Sergeant
Thomas. They were met by the committee
and escorted, with a band, to the stand of
Petersen & Alschwee.
