CHIPS Hewn Out of Local Material With Our Little Hatchet. Thirty-eight arrests were made by the police yesterday during the twenty-four hours ending at 7 a. m. yesterday morning. During an altercation in Shepherd's alley, between William Dorsey and J. II. Miner, Miner was seriously hurt. Dorsey was arrested. Miss Mary S. Hurdle, daughter of the late Levi and Lydia B. Hurdle, died in Alexan- dria Monday morning, December 25, at 11:30 o'clock, after a painful illness. Hour of fune- ral will be published to-morrow. John Hayes, driver of a milk wagon, yes- terday afternoon, about half past 3 o'clock, ran over a white woman named Mary Casson- over at the corner of Seventh and New York avenue, slightly injuring the woman. Yesterday afternoon a carriage owned by Col. Patterson, containing two ladies, was suddenly turned around and badly smashed on M street near Tenth street, by the horse taking fright at some fire crackers.
