Montgomery, Penna.
Commander Robert W. Peary.
July 4, 1905;
New York.
Dear Sir.
The press dispatches of this morning state that you will be obliged
to abandon your proposed Arctic Expedition unless an additional $50,000
be raised for your use.
The inclosed words have been set to music and will be published
as soon as you sail for your destination. They will be sung during your
absence upon every patriotic occasion, if it don't rain.
Can you afford to let a little item like $50,000 deprive you of
such glory?If you don't get back, you'll be embalmed in both ice and song,
a double glory, never before bestowed upon any living man.
Please reply for future reference,
Yours in suspense,
s.m. Rhone
