HARTNESs SCREW THREAD COMPARATOR Figure 18 shows the form of cradles usually preferred for bolt work. The thread of the bolt rests in one of the cradles and the shank in the other. The thread form of the cradles is cleared at crest and root SO that it takes bearing on the sides of the thread of the screw, SO that it locates the screw in relation to the flanks of the thread which after all are the only essential working parts. 32
