Photograph of three San Francisco Mint employees at the annealing furnaces in the Coiner's Department.
Strips of gold were enclosed in long copper cannisters, sealed, and then placed in the furnace. A sink for washing the strips is opposite the furnaces. An article that appeared in "Overland Monthly" (volume XXXVI, #216, December 1900) features this photograph on page 571.
