Sir
After 3 attempts to see you at your house your servard informed me
you requested my attendance at your office I went at the appointed hour,
but was told you was engged a wenta second time but to no purpose, and
have concluded to address you by letter on the subject of my business
I have by me, on paper, an anthere of my bullet machine explanatory of
the principle shewing how the bars are applied and the balls formed and
delivered; and believe its would satisfy you lifyou have any doubt of
the correcting of the stated product. I thought it probable you would want
some information on that or some other part of the business and wished
to shew my readines, not only to throw what light I could on any part
of the subject that might seem to require it, but to produce evidence if
you concerned it to be necessary.
I also felt anxious to know whether I have time to prepare for publica
a condensed view of the subject to meet the eye of each of the members of
congrep, before the final decision, if in your opinion there would be no
impropriety in such a course.
I beg leave to above you that my importunity does not proceed from
any doubt of your melination, are ability to do me justice, for I have
full confidence in both, but from the interest myself and family feel
we have in the business, and from a desire to smitnnthing on my
part, that might contribute to your information.
The following circumstance will sheez, that while I was doing no morethan
my duty toward my country, I have greater claims to her perstive than has
commonly been imanagine For: Just before Mr Enshins, the Bortish me
nister left this place for England he send Mr Shitter to meto inquire
into the propertres of my invention, and in particular what the prometim
musket balls would be with an assurance that on receiving a statement
which I soon after went him, he would lay the matter before his government.
I then offered the invention to the British government through him, and when
Mr Foster came I had afair apportunity of rowning and perhaps femishing
