An autograph manuscript diary kept by Thomas Newell, of Boston, between January 1, 1773 and December 22, 1774. Entries for each day document the weather, often with additional details of events from Newell's daily life, or important occurrences in Boston and the colonies. Newell's entry for December 17, 1773, describes the destruction of the East India Company's tea in Boston Harbor by the Sons of Liberty. Accompanied by a separate booklet of materials taken from the previous binding (fragment of the original cover, notes from former owners, clippings, bookplate, and a letter from former owner M.F. Whittemore to subsequent owner Abram E. Cutter). These materials gathered together and sewn into conservation wrappers.

Broadside facsimile of the United States Declaration of Independence with 51 clipped manuscript signatures of the Declaration's original signers affixed by Mellen Chamberlain beneath the text. Two notes on the verso, signed by Chamberlain and dated "July 2nd 1860" and "January 3rd 1870," describe how Chamberlain gathered and removed the signatures from other documents between 1837 and 1870. The second note also states that the signature of Thomas Lynch, Jr. is a facsimile. A letter from Joshua Bates to Benjamin Seaver, Mayor of Boston, in which Bates offers to donate $50,000 to the Boston Public Library, the funds to be used for the purchase of books. Bates explains that his donation would be contingent on several conditions: "that the building shall be such as shall be an ornament to the city, that there shall be room for 100 or 150 persons to sit at reading tables, that it shall be perfectly free to all, with no other restrictions than such as may be necessary for the preservation of the books."

Statutes of the Confraternity of Santa Maria Rotunda, in Milan. Comprising a document, dated 2 June 1520, in the name of Ruffinus Belingarius, vicar general of the archdiocese of Milan, addressed to Ambrosio de Seregnio, rector of the church of S. Giovanni Itolano. Forwards and includes the texts of two bulls of Pope Leo X, both dated 13 August 1518, that confirm the statutes of the confraternity, the Italian text of which is given in full. Also includes the text of a decree of the Duke of Milan, issued in January 1486, regulating the status of charitable institutions, and a pronouncement, dated 2 March 1518, in the name of King Francis I of France, who was at that time the ruler of Milan.
