"The original diary was 2 little notebooks, and at some point were loaned to Louise Elliot, Washington Historical Commission Member around 1960s and 1970s from Mr. and Mrs. Charles Messenger of Dalton. Harry Messenger was born around 1886 on the Messenger farm. His mother was Caroline Messenger, and he lived and worked on the farm along side Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. In 1910, he married Mildred Culver and they had a son, Curtis. Mildred died in 1920. He later remarried a woman named Victoria. He kept the diary around the ages of 12 to 24. This diary was included in the History of Washington published by the Washington Historical Commission in 1977."
