Writing on behalf of a "few freedom loving spirits," Charlotte Davis invites William Lloyd Garrison to come to Acton to give an anti-slavery lecture. She explains: "We ask this of you not because you are 'abolitionism personified & incarnate,' or the 'God of our idolatry,' but that you may be living witness, not only against southern Slavery, but against the traducing spirit & evil genius of new organization. ..."
