Letter from George Armstrong, Bristol, [England], to Samuel May, August 12 / 56
Armstrong is very much depressed by the anti-slavery outlook. He is somewhat cheered by the failure of Franklin Pierce and Stephen A. Douglas to obtain the Democratic nomination. He calls attention to certain articles in a Bristol newspaper, "The Christian Inquirer," and the "National Anti-Slavery Standard." Armstrong praises Reverend Moncure Daniel Conway and Senator Charles Sumner.
