Nurses returned from Hawaii\nMr. Thoron indicated that it would be to his office that any nurse\nshould be referred who turns to the Red Cross for information regarding\nher status or compensation in connection with her service under the\nOffice of Civilian Defense in Hawaii.\nThe statement regarding disability compensation in the instructions\nregarding employment, retirement, sick leave and compensation issued\nthrough the Red Cross to all nurses being recruited for the Office of\nCivilian Defense was reviewed. Mr. Thoron indicated that this is a\ncorrect statement, and pointed out that hospitalization provided for is\nonly \"in one of the emergency hospitals.\"\n4. Recruitment\nMr. Thoron concurred with Miss Beard in the opinion that with the\ncompletion of the nurses to which we have committed ourselves to date,\nthe Red Cross has completed the responsibility which it undertook, and\nthat there was no reason to anticipate further requests. He was in\naccord with the recommendation that any request for nurses should be\nmade by Hawaii through his office.\nVirginia M. Dunbar\nAssistant Director\nNursing Service\nAmerican Red Cross"
