Dear Mr. Secretary:
Pursuant to Executive Order 10798, of January 3, 1959,
on July 4 of this year the new flag occasioned by the
admission
of Alaska into the Union becomes effective. 107147-0
Proclamation 2795 of July 2. 1948, directs that at the
x Fort McHenry National Monument and Historie Shrine
074-Q-4
the flag be displayed at all times during the day and
night, except when the weather is inclement.
This Executive Order and Proclamation gives you the
authority to raise the new flag at Fort McHenry at
12:01 A. M. on Saturday, July 4, 1959. In order to
commemorate further the splendid tradition of the Stars
and Stripes at Fort McHenry it is my request that you
exercise such authority.
