CONGRESSIONAL
CANDER
Dear Congressman Curtis:
The President has asked me to tell you that he has
decided to have the first fifty-star flag displayed
at Fort McHenry at 12:01 a. m. on July 4, 1960.
This, of course, makes it impossible to comply
with the request of Reverend J. Murray Marshall
that the first display be over the Park Street Church
in Boston.
The President regrets that he was unable to comply
with Reverend Marshall's request, but has asked
that you express to Reverend Marshall his deep
appreciation of his suggestion.
Sincerely yours,
Robert E. Merriam
Deputy Assistant
to the President
The Honorable Laurence Curtis
