118 10 -2- Q Is Germany on the way? THE PRESIDENT: No. Q Have you anything to say about the people in Michigan and Wisconsin sustaining the prohibition repeal ac- cording to the Democratic platform? THE PRESIDENT: What do you think? (Laughter) Q Mr. President, can you give us your point of view on this thirty-hour week legislation? THE PRESIDENT: All I can tell you on that at the present time is that I am trying to find out what the effect will be. Miss Perkins is having a special study made and so is the Secretary of Commerce, and we are going to check it over, over the week-end. Then probably either Miss Perkins or Mr. Roper will go up and talk it over with the Committee in the House. That is far as we got. Q Does that include the proposed amendment for barring all importations that are not manufactured on the thirty- hour basis? THE PRESIDENT: That was not adopted, was it? Q No, sir; it failed, but it is in the Connery bill which is supposed to be substituted for the other bill. THE PRESIDENT: We have not mentioned that at all. I sup- pose they will look into that phase of it.
