In this year of intensive focus on energy issues, thanks to the President's National Energy
Strategy, we believe it is important for the Administration to present its case to as many
influential audiences as possible. But we also believe it is important that energy issues be
discussed within the broad framework of the President's goals and hopes across the board
of international and domestic issues.
With all this in mind, we would like to invite you to be the banquet speaker at the joint
Winter Meeting of the American Nuclear Society and the Nuclear Energy Forum of the

On behalf of the Republican Party of Iowa, it is my privilege to invite you to be our
featured speaker at our annual Abe Lincoln Dinner on Saturday, June 8, in Des Moines,
Iowa.
This event is an annual fundraising dinner that is attended by Republicans from the
entire state. The event normally draws between 700 and 850 guests.
The dinner is attended by the entire Republican Congressional delegation, Governor
Terry Branstad, Lt. Governor Corning and all Republican statewide elected officials.
The normal sequence of events includes a high dollar reception prior to the dinner and
program. The reception is attended by all invited dignitaries as well as individuals who
have paid a minimum of $300 for a Republican Party of Iowa package plan. The
reception will begin at 5:00 p.m. and the dinner at 7:00 p.m. The evening concludes
generally at 8:30 p.m.
The above details describe generally how the Lincoln Dinner evolves and obviously we
would adapt our schedule to your needs.

I am President of the New Hampshire affiliate of the
National Association for the Education of Young Children
(NAEYC) NAEYC, along with the Children's Defense Fund was
helpful to the 101st Congress in the passage of the Child
Care Block Grant. NAEYC is an organization of 80,000 early
childhood professionals who work with children birth through
age eight years. It was exciting to hear the President in
his speech before the Congress last night site the Child Care
Block Grant as a collaborative triumph.
NHAEYC will be hosting the All New England AEYC Spring
Conference May 1 through 3 in 1992. As the Conference Chair
I have planned a Friday May 1 Keynote Dinner Address by a
well known political leader on education and children's
issues Although I realize that 1992 will be a very busy
year for the President I feel I would not be serving the New
England membership if I did not ask if the President would be
available to make the address. The Dinner will be for 600 to
800 at The Center of New Hampshire on May 1, 1992.
I will be in Washington on April 5 and 6 and I would be
available at your convience to discuss this invitation with

On July 17, 1990, I wrote you in an attempt to obtain a commitment
from Governor Sununu to speak at our College of Engineering
Advisory Council uncheon in April of this year. You graciously
replied on August 8 requesting that we repeat the invitation closer
to the actual date of the event. (See attached letters).

After a series of phone calls, your instructions were to call again
February 1, 1991. The Gulf War, of course, intervened and we
realized that the Chief of Staff would find it impossible to commit to
future appointments for some time.
However, we wish to re-confirm our Invitation and ask that he
consider Friday, April 26, or Friday, April 19, or Friday, April 12. We
expect that a morning arrival here in Milwaukee would enable the
Chief of Staff to speak to our Engineering graduatos, members of the
Advisory Council, and faculty, have lunch, and return to Washington
by early evening. In the past other speakers have been able to catch
a plane before 3:00 p.m. to return to their home base.
I would appreciate hearing by March 20 if Governor Sununu will
accept our invitation as we need to finalize preparation for the event.

You may recall that when you were Governor of New Hampshire you accepted on two
occasions an invitation from me to speak to the New England Water Works Association. It
is now my privilege, as President of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), to
extend a most cordial invitation to you to be the keynote speaker at our 1991 Annual
Conference and Exposition to be held in Philadelphia, June 23-27. The keynote address
is given during the opening general session on Monday morning, June 24, from 10 a.m. to
12 noon.
You might want to know that AWWA is the world's oldest and largest association of
professionals in the field of public water supply. We have more than 52,000 members,
whose employers provide most of the drinking water served in this country. In fact,
more than 3,500 municipalities, from the largest to very small communities, are members
of AWWA. Our annual conference is the largest event of its kind, attracting about
10,000 participants--about half of whom would be in the opening general session audience
we hope you will address.
If your schedule permits you to accept this invitation, Governor, we can get back to you
or your staff to work out the details and arrangements. As you make your decision, just
be assured that you would find your AWWA audience to be an interested, receptive, and
supportive one. There will be people there from every state and several hundred from
abroad. We hope you will consider this event as a useful platform to address some of
the Administration's issues with key officials and business people.

By way of background, IPAA is a national association
representing the interests of the 10,000 independent oil and
natural gas producers who operate in the United States. The
independent plays a vital role in the United State's domestic
energy posture. The individual members, partnerships and
companies drill about 85 percent of all wells in the country.
Independents find more than half of new oil and natural gas
reserves and produce 31 percent of all crude oil and 60 percent
of domestic natural gas.
Approximately 1200 members and spouses will be in attendance
at the San Diego Meeting with about 600 attending the Luncheon
and General Session. There will be an address of 20-30 minutes
followed by (if you choose) a 15-20 minute question and answer
period.

of over 40 scientists and policy experts who were members of the Academy's

At the dinner briefing a number of my committee members will join me in
describing the report and discussing our findings with you. I look forward to
a candid and lively discussion. The report will be released at a press
conference and public briefing the following day.

I am writing to you as President-Elect of the American
Association of Endodontists, which will be holding its 48th
Annual Session in Washington, D.C. from April 17-21, 1991. I may
have mentioned this meeting to you when I treated you for a root
canal procedure at Tufts last year.
The A.A.E. is a Dental Specialty Association whose members
are endodontists, commonly known as root canal specialists.
There are currently almost 4000 members of the Association, most
of whom will be in attendance. The Annual Session is primarily
scientific and affords our members the opportunity to stay
abreast of advances in the practice of the specialty. I will be
sworn in as President at the end of the meeting.
The President of the A.A.E., Dr. James McGraw, has been an
active participant in Washington state's Republican Party efforts
and he and the Association would be honored if you would grace
our Opening Session Breakfast with a few welcoming remarks to its
members and guests. The breakfast will be held at 8:00 a.m. on

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Center for Global Change Science is planning to
host a symposium entitled "The World At Risk: Natural Hazards and Climate Change." The
objective of the symposium will be to highlight and discuss the possible implications of climate
change on natural hazards. The desire to emphasize the link between climate change and
natural hazards arises from the declaration, by the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the
United Nations, of the 1990's as the International Decade for Natural Hazard Reduction.
Topics of the symposium will include outlining strategies for prediction, prevention and
adaptation, as well as the response of both engineering and governments to the changing forces
of nature.
We would be honored if you would attend the symposium, and participate in a panel
discussion concerning the response of government to global environmental issues. The two-day
symposium is scheduled for the week of January 13-17, 1992, and will be held at facilities on
the MIT campus. A proposal for sponsorship has been submitted to the National Science
Foundation. At this time we would like an indication of your interest in participating in the
symposium.
