MRS. FORD'S REMARKS
OHIO VILLAGE
May 4, 1976
I.
I'VE DONE QUITE A BIT OF TRAVELING
AROUND THE UNITED STATES THIS YEAR,
AND I'VE ALSO BEEN VISITING THE PAST
depicting
THROUGH RESTORED PLACES
AMERICAN HISTORY.
2.
FROM BEN FRANKLIN'S HOME AND SHOP
TO AN ADOBE SCHOOLHOUSE IN THE WEST
THESE VISITS REMINDED ME
OF HOW MUCH OUR PAST REVEALS ABOUT US TODAY.
OF COURSE IT'S INTERESTING TO IMAGINE
3.
LIFE BY KEROSENE LIGHT,
BUT I THINK IT'S EVEN MORE IMPORTANT
The
The
TO THINK ABOUT HOW AND WHY
OUR ANCESTORS TRIUMPHED OVER THEIR PROBLEMS.
I BELIEVE WE HAVE SURVIVED IN AMERICA,
4.
BECAUSE OF OUR WILLINGNESS
IN ourgelves And
OUR country
TO TRANSLATE FAITH INTO ACTION.
^
WHEN WE ELECT A PRESIDENT,
5.
WE ARE SELECTING SOMEONE WHO
NOT ONLY HEADS THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH,
BUT ALSO EXPRESSES OUR BELIEF
IN AMERICA AND ITS ACTIONS.
IT'S NOT SIMPLY BECAUSE
6.
JERRY FORD IS MY HUSBAND
THAT I WANT TO SEE HIM
ELECTED PRESIDENT.
IT IS BECAUSE HE BELIEVES
7.
IN THE ABILITY OF PEOPLE
TO DETERMINE THEIR OWN LIVES.
HE TRULY BELIEVES
8.
THE STRENGTH OF THE NATION
BEGINS WITH EACH INDIVIDUAL,
AND HE SEES IN OUR PAST ACHIEVEMENTS
THE BEGINNINGS OF AN EVEN BETTER AMERICA.
I THINK FROM BEING HERE TODAY
9.
YOU SHARE MY FEELINGS
THAT PRESIDENT FORD IS THE KIND OF HONEST,
DEDICATED AND TALENTED PERSON NEEDED
TO LEAD AMERICA
INTO ITS THIRD CENTURY.
10.
WE NEED YOUR HELP,
the
BECAUSE ELECTIONS ARE WON BY PEOPLE
WHO WORK TO ELECT GOOD CANDIDATES.
II.
I HOPE WE CAN COUNT ON YOU
TO SHARE YOUR CONCERN
WITH YOUR NEIGHBORS.
THANK YOU
FOR YOUR WARM AND FRIENDLY WELCOME TODAY.
I WILL SHARE YOUR ENTHUSIASM
12.
surely
WITH THE PRESIDENT----
WHO TRULY APPRECIATES
YOUR CARING ENOUGH TO WORK WITH HIM.
