REMARKS OF PRESIDENT GERALD R. FORD
INTRODUCING EUGENE FODOR, GUEST VIOLINIST
STATE DINNER FOR PRIME MINISTER RABIN
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 1974
I AM PLEASED TO WELCOME TO THE WHITE HOUSE TONIGHT A
BRILLIANT YOUNG AMERICAN. THIS SUMMER, HE BECAME THE FIRST
AMERICAN TO SHARE TOP HONORS IN THE WORLD-FAMOUS VIOLIN COMPETI-
TION IN MOSCOW. INDEED, OUR GUEST ARTIST IS ALSO THE FIRST
WESTERNER TO WIN SUCH RECOGNITION.

I AM REFERRING TO EUGENE FODOR (PRONOUNCED FOE-DER)
OF COLORADO. EUGENE'S GREAT-GREAT-GRANDFATHER FOUNDED A CONSERVA-
TORY OF MUSIC IN HUNGARY. THE FAMILY BROUGHT THIS GREAT TALENT
TO AMERICA. ALL AMERICANS SHARE PRIDE IN EUGENE'S MOST RECENT
ACHIEVEMENT.

HE IS NOT ONLY A DISTINGUISHED VIOLINIST. HE ALSO
JOGS FOUR MILES A DAY, IS A SCUBA DIVER, A SKIER, AND RIDES
SPIRITED HORSES. HE OBVIOUSLY SHARES MY ENTHUSIASM FOR PHYSICAL
EXERCISE. I WISH I SHARED EVEN A LITTLE OF HIS MUSICIANSHIP.
I AM VERY GLAD HE HAS AGREED TO PLAY FOR OUR DISTINGUISHED GUESTS
TONIGHT IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

SINCE OUR GUESTS ARE FROM ISRAEL, A NATION THAT LIKED
THE SHOW "FIDDLER ON THE ROOF", I KNOW THAT YOU WILL LOVE ONE OF
AMERICA'S OWN FINEST FIDDLERS UNDER THE ROOF OF THE WHITE HOUSE.
MAY I PRESENT A GREAT ARTIST, EUGENE FODOR.
