WILLIAM W. SCRANTON
Biographical Data
William W. Scranton has been a member of the President's General
Advisory Committee on Arms Limitation and Disarmament since 1969.
He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the U.S. Railway
Association.
Mr. Scranton served as Governor of Pennsylvania from 1963 to 1967,
after serving in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 87th Congress
for the tenth district of Pennsylvania. In 1959, he served as Special
Assistant to the Secretary of State. In 1968 he was sent by President
Nixon on missions to the Middle East and Europe, before becoming the
U.S. Ambassador to Inyelsat and Chairman of the United States
Delegation.
In 1970, he served as Chairman on the President's Commission on
Campus Unrest. From 1971 to 1972, he served on the President's
Price Commission.
Mr. Scranton was born in Madison, Connecticut, on July 19, 1917.
and received his B.A. from Yale University in 1939 and his LL. B.
in 1946. He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force from
1941 to 1945.
Mr. Scranton is married to the former Mary Lowe Chamberlin.
They reside in Dalton, Pennsylvania, and have five children.
