THE WHITE HOUSE
The President is extremely gratified by House and Senate approval of
the U. S. /Romanian Trade Agreement. This action clears the way to
extension of most favored nation and other normal trade terms to
Romania and is in keeping with the generally favorable development
of U. S./Romanian relations in recent years, On the eve of the
President's visit to Bucharest at the conclusion of the CSCE in
Helsinki, this expression of Congressional approval reflects the
broad support in both the Executive and Legislative branches for the
President's policy of promoting closer ties between the United States
and Romania.
(Note: The House gave final Congressional approval Monday.)
