POOL REPORT
August 7, 1975
PRESIDENT'S INTERVIEW BY PUBLIC BROADCASTING SYSTEM
We only had about two minutes in the room. We
were held in the kitchen entrance until the taping was
finished.
The taping was in the Solarium on the third
floor of the White House. It is a very pretty room.
What would you call it, Grace, yellow-flowered drapes?
A
Yes, gold curtains with orange flowers.
POOLER: The President and the two who were
doing the interview -- Martin and Paul -- were sitting.
Paul Duke and the President were on a sofa, which is backed
up to a big picture window and the picture window looked
out on the White House Lawn. Martin Agronsky was sitting
in a chair just to the side.
There were three television cameras -- one on
each side, one looking straight out the window. They
had just finished their taping as we came in, and
unfortunately the conversation is all off the record.
The room -- there were book shelves which had
a few books in them, but mostly, apparently someone had
been using it for a hi-fi -- there were all sorts of
speakers around in the book shelves. The books are on
the record but we don't know what they were.
Gee, all the rest of this is conversation,
which I can't give you. It is off the record because
the taping was over and it was a private conversation
between the President and a couple of guests, so it is
just off the record.
Q
Who put it off the record?
POOLER: Ron Nessen put it off the record.
Q
Who were the guests?
POOLER: The guests were the two that were taping.
Q
Ron, what was the conversation?
MR. NESSEN: It was just a personal chat after
they had gone off the air.
POOLER: Grace, do you have anything else?
A
No.
POOLER: We were in and out so fast. The
President wore a blue pin-stripe suit. I forgot that. That
is on the record. He wore a blue pin-stripe suit and
he and the panel, Paul Duke and Martin Agronsky, were in
very earnest conversation when we got in, paid no attention
to us at all. We were very disappointed at that.
That is about it. We didn't stay there long
enough to get much.
