NOTICE TO THE PRESS
The President today announced the appointment of three persons as
Representatives of the United States, to participate as national corre-
spondents in the United Nations Program for the Prevention of Crime
and the Treatment of Offenders for terms expiring December 31, 1980.
They are:
Sylvia A. Bacon, of the District of Columbia,
Associate Judge of the District of Columbia
Superior Court, Washington, D.C.
Lee P. Brown, of. Portland, Oregon, Sheriff and
Director of Public Safety, Multnomah County.
Bernard Carey, of Chicago, Illinois, State's
Attorney of Cook County.
The functions of the appointees is to inform the Secretary General on
current developments in the prevention of crime and treatment of
offenders. The range of information includes matters relating to
legislation, public and private agency programs; trends in the incidence
of crime; results of experimental and demonstration projects; and other
related matters. In addition, the correspondents assist the Secretariat
in the collection of data and information required for international surveys
and studies in the field.
