WHITE HOUSE,
WASHINGTON.
October 1, 1904.
My dear Mr Secretary:
The President wishes you would lay all the facts
concerning the assault upon Colonel Shepard before
the Attorney General, and say it is the desire of
the President that the utmost vigilance be used in
bringing the perpetrators of the outrage to justice.
Very truly yours,
woman
Secretary to the President.
Hon. E. A. Hitchcock,
Secretary of the Interior.
