S/S:
Congrdssman McCormack telephoned the Secretary to
discuss the Mindszenty case. His first problem was taken
care of by the Secretaryis press statement of today.
His second idea was to find out if there was any way
the United States could influence or suggest to Tito that
now would be a good time to release Stepinac. McCormack
didn't know whether this was a good idea or what, if anything,
could be done about it, but it seemed to him that if Tito would
release Stepinac, it would be a great victory for us.
The Secretary said he would look into the matter right
away. Please take appropriate action accordingly.
