NZA American Embassy, Rome S/MDA L-1493 Ambassador Tarchiani introduced Mr. Brusases, explaining that Nr. Brusasca, Undersecretary of the Foroign office, had been the head of the Italian Delegation in New York during the consideration of the final disposition of the former Italian dolony, Eritrea. I seid that the aolu- tion of federation which had been decided by the Asseably apperad to be a vory satisfactory one and that Mr. Brusasca was to be partiqularly con- gratulated for his own part in achieving that result. I wished to accoress our appreciation for his handling of that problem which was indeed a diffieult ene for him. Mr. Brusasca said that he brought the salutations of the Prime Minister and the Foroign Minister and thoir approciation for all that the United States was doing to holp Italy. He said that the final decisions with regard to the former Italian colonies could not but be unhappy for Italy, but that his country now hopes that the Italian inhabitants of those areas will be fairly treated in the future and that Italy can count on the United States using its influence with the Negua towards that end. I said that wo, of course, knew that this was of great importance and fully expected that the Italion inhabitants would be treated justly and that wo would be glad to holp in any way that night be fitting. Mr. Brunasca then referred to the discussions that had been going on at Lake Success with regard to the property rights of Italian inhabitants in LibyR. He said that after lengthy discussions in the ad hec committee and with the British, a solution had been agreed to between the Italians and the DECLASSIFIED E.O. 11652.
