Miller Ambassador Dreier AR Embasay, Buenos Aires u. s, GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE 16-61120-1 The Argentine Foreiga Minister, Dr. Hipólito Jesúa Paz ealled on me this morning accompanied by the Argentine Ambassador, Dr. Jerónimo Remorino. This was a courteay e sll prior to the Neeting of Foreign Ministers. I informed the Minister thnt ve had been making eareful preparations for the Neeting with a view to drawing up pro- posala which we believed vould find general acceptance and that this seemed to me a preferable approuch to the Meeting than to bring up subjeats which might be more spectacular. I remarked that I hoped the Minister agreed with this approach. Dr. Paz replied thnt he Mas in complete agreement and that the Argentines had also been making careful preparations with the same thought in mind--nanely to limit the subjects of the Meeting to points which vould be likely to achieve general agreement. I then stated that it seemed to ne that it was especially important nt this time in the vorld' history that the American republics should make a success of the Neeting since it would impress the world with a demonstration of solidarity in this hem sphere. The Winister said that he shared my viewa exactly.
