Some time ago President Truman received from the
President of Italy a first century Roman vase in marble. This
has been set up in the White House grounds. The President has
a photograph in color of it. He wishes to send this photograph
with a letter of thanks to the President of Italy.
The President will have the photograph wrapped and sent
to us. We are to prepare a letter to the President of Italy. This
should be done promptly as he will be leaving the end of the
week. I have a recollection, which may be wrong, that a letter
of thanks was drafted. At any rate, this should be investigated
and liaison established with the White House about it.
