ACHESON:\nSo the whole thing blew up, with very bad repercussions.\nMR. HARRIMAN:\nThe British were negotiating that whole thing, weren't they?\nMR. ACHESON:\nI don't know who was behind it. I'm sure samebody was, but I don't know\nanything about it, and I don't know whether anybody else here does.\nI\nhave never asked.\nMR. HARRIMAN:\nAny of you know?\nMR. NITZE:\nI don't think we-I don't think the U. S. Government had a damn thing to\ndo with it; I really don't.\nMR. HARRIMAN:\nAll that I know about it was that right after Ghavam fell and just before,\nwhen the Shah was gone to Italy, it so happened that (Selden-Boice?) (some\nof the boys?) came down and had lunch with me at the of fice; and he said\nthe à\nthey tried to put this over but it didn't work. But I didn't question him\nUS GOVER\nand\nfurther.\nMR. NITZE:\nThe British did have something to do with it...\nMR. HARRIMAN:\nAnd he said, \"I guess we 've missed the bus. And the next morning we read\nin the paper about the counter-revolutions that he'd been getting in.\nMR. ACHESON:\nThat's the second one; that isn't this one-the one you're talking about\nMR. HARRIMAN:\n0h, the second one, yes.\nMR. ACHESON:\nThis is the one in '53.\nMR. HARRIMAN:\nNo, but I mean--I recognize that, but I'm ahead of your story, but the only\nreason why this has any pertinence on what you're talking about was his\nstatement that we tried to\nMR. ACHESON:\nTried to do it in 153 and they thought they failed and they succeeded.\nMR. NITZE:\nI thought it was Kashani who came in to see the Shah during the Ghavam\nepisode."
