MEMORANDUM RE S.1851,
PASSED BY HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
IN AMENDED FORM FEBRUARY 26, 1952
Subsection (c) of section 1 of the bill, as passed by the House of
Representatives, reads:
"(c) When the Attorney General or any district director
or any assistant district director of the Immigration and
Naturalization Service has information indicating a reasonable
probability that in any designated lands or other property
aliens are illegally within the United States, he may obtain
a warrant under oath from a court of competent jurisdiction
authorizing the immigration officer named therein to go upon
or within such designated lands or other property other than
a dwelling in which the warrant states there may be aliens
illegally within the United States, for the purpose of interro-
gating such aliens concerning their right to enter or to be or
remain in the United States. Such warrant shall state therein
the time of day or night for its use and the period of its
validity which in no case shall be for more than thirty days."
The same provision, as the bill was originally passed by the Senate on
February 5, 1952, read:
"(c) When the Attorney General or any district director or
any assistant district director of the Immigration and Natural-
ization Service has information indicating a reasonable prob-
ability that in any designated lands or other property aliens
