No person in Américan higher education is better qualified. to speak on the management of universities than Samuel Paul Capen. Through his carly survey work he gained an intimate knowledge of the purposes and operations of many of the colleges and universities in this country. As the head of the University of Buffalo, which he. changed from a loose collection of professional schools into a well integrated and great university, he -demonstrated the validity of his principles relating to the every day job of managing a large and complex university This volume .containing a selection of his papers and addresses can be read profitably by administrative officers and faculity members in all our institutions of higher education.
