for enlisted mon at the Sales Commissary must cease at once.
III. The following memorandum from the Commanding General 2
Second Army, is published for the information of all concerned.
Strict compliance is directed.
"l. Owing to the laxity and indifference shown by many
officers of this command, and by casual officers visiting Toul
in saluting their superiors and in acknowledging the salutes of
their juniors, it has been found necessary to cause officers
guilty of this neglect in the City of Toul to report to the
Provost Marshal for instructions and drill in saluting and to
cause enlisted mon who fail to salute, or to do so properly, to
be drilled on the Public Square in Toul.
2. Orders issued by G.H.G. and by these Headquarters re-
quire that the hand be held in the position of salute until the
salute is acknowledged or the person passed, and this will be
rigidly enforced.
3. It is desired that this matter of saluting be given
attention throughout your command and that be taken to see
that all persons of all grades of your commero nalute and salute
properly. Officers of higher grades will be raminded that it is
their duty to set the example in saluting in the smant and military
