EXTRACTS FROM INFANTRY DRILL REGULATIONS 747. (maition approved Aug 19, 1911, and edition corrected to November, 2913.) If the inspaction is to include an examination of the aquipment while in ranks, the coptain, after closing ranks, asusce the company to stack arna, to mardh backward until 4 in rom of the stacks and to take intervals. He then commande: 1. Unsting EQUIPMENT, 3. OPEN PACKS At the first command, each man unalings his equipment and places it on the ground at his feet, haverssok to the front end of the paok 1 foot in front of toss. Each man exposes chelter tent pins, renoves ment dan, knife, fork, and apoon from the most-gan pouoh, and plages then on the right of the haversack, knife, fork, and spoon in the op en meat oan; removes the ganteen and oup from the gover and placas them on the left side of the haversack; unstzaps and apreado out haverssok so as to expose its contents; folda up the garrior to uncover the oartridge pooketo; opena asme; un- rolls toilet articles and places them on the outer flap of the haversagk; placce underwear oarried in pack on the left half of the open pack, with round fold parallel with front odge of paok; opena firot-aid pouch and exposes contents to view. Spacial articles oarried by individual mon, suoh as flag kit, field glasses, gompass, steel tipo, notobook, etc., will be arranged on the right half of the open paok. Ench man then rem sumes the attention. Plate VI ahowa the relative position of all articles except underwoar and special artioles. The osptain then passes along the ranka and file closers as before, in- apects the equipment, returns to he right, and oumands: CLOSE PACKS. Eagh man rolla up his toilet articles and underwear, statapa up his haversaok and its contents, replaces the meat daan, knife, fork, and apoon, and the and oup oloses gartridge pookets and first-aid pough; restores spacial articles to their proper receptacles; rolls up and ro- plagea paok in aurrier; and, leaving the equipment in its position on the ground, resumes the attention.
