Compulsory educational schools will be organized beginning March 1, 1919 in each battery and company having men who ome under the non-writing and non-reading class. (c.o. No. 9, GHQ AEF 1919) 2. Assistant enlisted school instructors appointed as per Memo, Feb. 24, 1919 Hdqr's 129th F.A., will under the direction of their organization commanders, hold classes two hours per day (P.M. see G.O. No. 30) five days a week (normally Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday). The following subjects will be pursued. Reading - 40 minutes 990. Reading of letters in alphabet, in print and in scrip t. Short words, spelling and meaning of same, Use of the capitals, period and interrogation point. Correction of errors in speech. Texts, - cover three pages per day average. Adjust wark to aptitude of students, Have each man write sentences, found at the bottom of p ges, at le ast five t ines. Make work practicable. Have men read newspapers as soon as possible. Arithmetic - 40 minutes. Can s ARCHAVES AND NECOEDS SERVICI** NATIONAL Count ing numbers up to twenty. Reading and writing of numbers. Numbers of two figures, uni ts and tens. Count to one hundred Make practicable Introduce measuring with a rule, adding of such as packages of cigarettes, chocolate bars, eggs, Pint and quart measures weights. Take up addition, subtraction, etc., as fast as ability of men W ill permi t. History - 40 minutes. The transi t of civilization from Europe to the new world. Founding of the co lonie development of the United States. Twenty Century progress and advancement. The great war. Make this work interesting by the introduction of present day practical subjects, e.g. boundary or their home states, principal cities, agricultural interests, etc. 3. Weekly report. Each assistant enlisted instructor will submi t a report due every Saturday A.M. to Regt. School Officer, Lt. J.M. Dowell, 2nd Bn. Hdurs. Naives, Include: Name (last name first) rank and army serial number of students. Com- plete list first week, only changes noted in following report. Classes held. (Give dates and time of day) NND Absentees - Date of, and reason for absence. Change - from previous week. Progress - General abili ty and aptitude of students. Brief Summary of week's work. suggestions. 4. More advanced schools in mathematics, history civil government, etc., in each organization are advised.
