1040. headquorters 35th Division Amercion Expeditionary Forces 5th March, 1919 GENERAL ORDERS ) No. 23 SUBJECT: SEPARATION OF UNITS UPON ARRIVAL IN THE UNITED STATES. General Orders No. 15, January 31st, 1919, these Headquarters is rescinded and the following substituted therefor. Commanding Of- ficers will prepare the lists and the poports required without de- lay. "Tours March 4th, 1919 THUMA 2 ATIONAL Commanding General, ARCAIVES AND 35th Division. SERVICE* 91 G-1. Prepare for subnission to the Commanding General at port of embarkation upon arrival a report for each regiment or smaller separate unit of your Division showing number of officers and men destined for each camp or cantonement, destination given in oach case to be the camp or cantonment nearest the place of which the individual concerned is entitled to travol pay upon discharge under Gircular 85, War Departmont, 1918, .as published in Genoral Order 230, G.H.Q. 1918. In addition the Commander of each Company or corresponding unit will prepare separate lists for each camp or cantonment showing name, rank, and place to which entitled to travel pay of each individual shown thereon. These lists to be used as a basis of separation OF the units, upon arrival in the United States, into detachments destined to the various camps or cantonments. Copies of those lists will also be prepared for presentation at the port of enbarkation. Whenefer a back haul would be involved by assigning a man to a camp or cantonment nearest the place to which he is entitled to travel pay, good judgement must be exercised in assigning this man to a camp, giving due con- sideration to the expense to the Government involved by a back haul as against the incroase in payment of travel pay if sent to a camp which would not involve a back haul.
