The KANSAS CITY LADIES' COLLEGE, located at Independence,
was organized about a year ago and placed under the care of the two
Presbyteries, Northern and Southern, contiguous to Kansas City. To
make necessary additions to the building and properly furnish it
throughout, it was estimated fully $10,000 would be required. It was
agreed that this sum should be furnished by friends of the institution
in Independence and Kansas City, each locality providing $5,000.
Independence promptly placed its share in the hands of the Trustees.
Kansas City has subscribed $2,400, leaving a deficit still to be pro-
vided of $2,600. In erecting a new building and fitting and furnish-
ing the old one, the greater part of the $10,000 has been expended.
Claims now outstanding, to be met by the balance due still on the
Kansas City pledge, are as follows :
Dr. J. S. Mott, (Furnishing),
$614 59
Ott & Son, (Furniture),

After the first year, it is expected the institution will be self-
sustaining. The $2,600 still to be raised will secure us an institution
fully equipped, first-class in all its appointments, and free from debt.
Next week (April 6th-Ith) our friends in Kansas City will be asked
to complete their pledge of $5,000. Some have done nobly. Let
others do likewise and the work will be done. When the $10,000
pledged shall have been paid and expended as indicated we shall have
a property in splendid shape and free from incumbrance, worth at
least $40,000.
