"I talked privately with President Rhee at his home in Pusan, at 241430I June for one hour. The two of us were alone throughout hour talk. I opened the conversation by stating that I was representing General Clark, who wanted me to express again his concern, as well as my own, over the continued crisis re the political situation, and that General Clark and I wished to make it clear once again that we support fully the position presented by the US and the UN. I reminded the President that General Clark had emphasized this point when he visited the President on 2 June, both at the beginning and at the end of the conference. "I admitted that General Clark and I had been, and still are, vitally concerned with the military situation primarily, but that we are in complete accord with the US and the UN political position with respect to the ROK and that there is no divergency in the US and UN political and military positions. "The President assured me that that had always been his under- standing. He stated that he had expected me to give primary attention to the military and Ambassador Muccio to political matters, but knew we supported each other. "I then presented to the President General Clark's letter dated 23 June, as contained in CX 50664. It was typed on plain paper and unclassified, and I told the President that it had been received by radio, classified, and that General Clark was forwarding, by courier, the original signed copy.
