MITCHELL, CLERK Miss Nellie Noland 216 North Delaware Street Independence, Missouri Dear Nellie: I will be most happy to place Miss Tyniajo Searcy's name on the eligible list for the Crop Insurance Corporation. we have had a tremendous number of applications for these jobs--I imagine in the neighborhood of two or three hundred--and if I am correctly informed, there will only be four or five jobs, maybe ten at the outside. Apparently Miss Searcy is a good typist, however, and if she can qualify as a typist she will have a much better chance. I am sending her name over to the Department of Agriculture today. I am sorry I didn't get out to the shindig for Major General "Butch" Stayton ("Old Blood and Thunder"). There was just so much to do here that I had to stay. It does look as if we will get through this week. Everybody wants to get away and I think we have done enough damage for one Session, myself. I am glad Aunt Ella is better and I hope she got downstairs to dinner Sunday. I remember Buck Fields very well. I think I went out to see him once with Uncle Joe. He was certainly a char- acter, and if this girl is as good a Democrat as he was she ought to be a real one. TRUMAN All the family want to be remembered.
