NATIONAL ARCHIVES AND RECORD# SERVICE CABINET MEETING, FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH, (MAY, 1949) ACHESON Reported that U. S. Chambers of Commerce in Tientsin & Shanghai oppose further aid to the Nationalist Government of China - are unani- mously opposed to McCarran bill which seeks to provide aid to National- ist Govt. BARKLEY Asked for explanation of Gen Chennault testimony urging further aid. ACHESON He is a better soldier than politician. He is misguided by his loyalty to the reigning families in the Nationalist Govt. THE PRESIDENT Complimented Cabinet on teamwork - stressed its importance. BARKLEY Congress is going to accomplish enough to prevent charge that we are running out on our platform. Republicans are indulging in a slow down technique to thwart administation program.
