THE PRESIDENT
Asked Acheson to proceed (he departs for Paris meeting of foreign
ministers today). Acheson is to pit out a full statement re Greek situa-
tion.
KRUG
Is encouraged by synthetic oil which is being developed. Has wit-
nessed demonstration of synthetic from coal and also from oil shale. In
oil shale deposits in Utah and Colorado there are over 200 billion bar-
rels available.
THE PRESIDENT
Wants to see Mexican oil deposits developed.
JOHNSON
Says Defense has no interest in Mexico.
THE PRESIDENT
Says he is vitally interested and instructed State and Defense to
proceed with Mexican development.
ACHESON
Agreed to push the negotiations.
BARKLEY
Says Senate is proceeding at snail's pace on pending bills. This
is due to Republican slow down technique.
